Born 1973 in Lahti, Finland; lives in Weimar.
Tea Mäkipää studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Helsinki, the Royal University College of Fine Arts in Stockholm and the Royal College of Art in London.

Mäkipää takes a critical look at aspects of the lifestyle of the western world in her work. First and foremost, she deals with questions regarding social coexistence, the way mankind deals with nature, and the negative effects of globalisation. The beauty of her often monumental installations, photographic works and objects is found in their ambiguity. The lucidity with which she presents the personal alienation from the state of nature and the admission of the disintegration of a holistic view of the world is relentless. »Atlantis«, an installation from 2007 (fig.), shows a picturesque little garden house that is half-sunk and adrift in the sea. Letterboxes, television antennas, and lights indicate habitability – the location alone speaks against it, and likewise raises questions about »homemade« natural disasters.
