Hesepe was incorporated in 1974. The clustered village grew up on the edge of the Vechte. Four old river branches remained after the river was regulated. The »Heseper Moor« sand heath region belongs to the Nordhorn Range bombing practice area. Hesepe’s agricultural area is regarded as a prime example of soil evolution in the county. The initial fields in a flood-protected area were laid out by the original settlers. The present-day block-like fields and meadows are drained by means of ditches and accessible by straight paths.
