The Catholic town of Engden is situated like an enclave between Protestant neighbors along the Vechte. The landscape plan calls for a renaturation of the Vechte lowlands by means of an extensification of the grassland, rewetting measures as well as shallow water pools. The “Rohrbachstau” culture dam (1930s) was refurbished in 2008 and provided for bed pitches for migrating fish. Quendorf to the south consists of individual scattered farmsteads. A land consolidation project was carried out in conjunction with the building of the A 31 motorway in order to cushion incipient burdens.
