Born 1964 in Essen, Germany; lives in Hamburg.
Studied at the University of Fine Arts of Hamburg.

Christoph Schäfers' artworks are based on observations of everyday life and are often developed with the assistance of drawings and diagrams. A logical consequence of his observations, he views his conceptual art as characterised by political and social implications. As an art activist, he intervenes in urban contexts and works with social networks for extended periods in order to achieve concrete social change. The project Park Fiction that he and Cathy Skeene initiated in cooperation with various initiatives, individuals and organisations in the mid-1990s in the St Pauli district of Hamburg was a successful attempt to convert public space into a political location with which to achieve collective desires. In 2006, with Saloon »La Realidad«, he opened a theme café where the changing relationship between art and reality is dealt with at the tables. An outdoor version of the saloon was opened in the summer of 2008 for the project »im Tal« (»In the Valley«) of the Erwin Wortelkamp Foundation in Westerwald.
