Born 1968 in Wurzburg, Germany; lives in Munich.
Education as wood sculptor and studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich.

The work of Bergmann utilises elements of sculpture, installation and theatre. Its occasionally almost absurd appearance can be interpreted as an attack upon habitual patterns of perception. The viewer is integrated into the (spatially encompassing) installations in which all the individual elements often merge into a physically tangible whole. In his 2006 piece »Beben« (»Quake«) at the Lenbachhaus in Munich (fig.), for example, Bergmann presented an oversized, roughly timbered and orange-red horn loudspeaker (approx. 420 x 640 x 1300 cm) that was lit up by neon lights at night. The interior of the megaphone could be entered, thus enabling the viewer to submerge deep into the reflective red. At the end of each hour a droning bass tone that was not loud but was physically palpable sounded out from the megaphone. From the bench set up directly across the way, passers-by could experience the acoustic, optical and physical resonance of the piece.
